ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

BROADENING OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR ALUMNI

After a  SERJobs client, or member, graduates from a SERJobs service or program, they are automatically included in the SERJobs Alumni Network.

Alumni choose their own level of involvement as they leverage their new skills, certifications, and knowledge. Everyone’s journey to their version of success is different – and SERJobs wants to be a resource for our alumni in the long term, celebrating their successes at every step of the way.

WHEN ALUMNI JOIN THIS NETWORK, THEY RECEIVE:

Invitations to special events - As our alumni program expands, SERJobs alumni will be invited to special events and engagements. These opportunities offer alumni a chance to reconnect with their fellow alumni, career coaches and SERJobs.

Access to employee candidate pool - If an alum starts their own business and needs a pipeline of skilled, credentialed employees, SERJobs is available to step in and give current members the same opportunities that alumni experienced.

SERJobs’ Success Story - Edwinna

During Edwinna T.’s recent graduation from SERJobs’ Banking Training, she delivered this inspirational speech to her peers and all of the friends and family gathered to celebrate the graduates. The following is all Edwinna’s own words.

“Education is the single most powerful tool to help people pull themselves out of poverty and change their life trajectory.” This quote is by Eva Longoria. Graduates, this is one thing that we would have to do once class began and that was to turn on our camera upon arrival. Today, believe it or not, we had to turn on our cameras. Now hold that thought.

When I received the call that I was accepted into the SERJobs Training course, I was simply elated that I was able to be a part of a program where I could seek additional knowledge about managing finances, building and repairing credit, effective communication skills, financial products, banking options, updated resume tips, and interview questions, and the list goes on.

Although I have two bachelor business degrees and have been an active member and servant leader in my community, I've been a homemaker for nine years. I yearned for the day that I was able to immerse myself back into the workforce again. And to be fully prepared, my skills have been strengthened because of the interactive sessions and modules taught at SERJobs and I am ready and willing to take the leap.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I anticipated meeting with my fellow classmates. By the way, there are some pretty phenomenal individuals. Just to name a few, starting with Jaime, who taught us that the answer is always at our fingertips. Sydney, who educated us on how to be brave and embrace our differences. As well as Shantoria who showed us the importance of being the jack of all trades. Please know that you are all making a tremendous impact on the others around you.

For Roberto Howard, the director of Financial Services at SERJobs, thank you for sharing your personal journey about finances and teaching financial literacy classes, they were extremely informative. VP Eric Galvin with Bank of America, thank you for your time and giving us insight about your company, conducting mock interviews and the necessary steps to excel in the banking industry.  To the Community Manager at Chase Bank, thank you for your patience in explaining all aspects of credit to us. To my counselor, Hunter, thank you for always being helpful and available. And to our fearless banking, SERJobs, lead instructor Robert Depay. Thank you for everything that you've done to mold us into successful and confident leaders. You are a rock star!

To all the graduates, as we go out and apply to jobs, interview with employers, and conquer the world, we must always remember to turn on our cameras. You are your brand. As Oprah Winfrey said, “If you want to accomplish the goals of your life, you have to begin with the spirit.”  Go and be great.”

Since graduating, Edwinna snagged a great job and is on her way to true self-sufficiency and economic mobility.

SERJobs is deeply grateful to our partners for their continued collaboration in empowering Edwinna and other Banking Training participants to reach their full potential.!
