ABOUT SERJOBS
At SERJobs, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to build a better life regardless of where they start.
Since 1965, we’ve stood alongside people who are ready to take that next step, individuals facing barriers such as unemployment, underemployment, or systemic inequities. Many of those we serve are opportunity youth, veterans, justice-involved individuals, single parents, or immigrants but our doors are open to anyone seeking a path toward stability, purpose, and success.
We don’t just connect people to jobs; we prepare them for careers, confidence, and lasting independence.
Through navigation, we meet each person where they are, connecting them to resources that remove barriers to success.
Through career coaching and career exploration, we help members identify their strengths, set goals, and create personalized pathways to meaningful work.
Through job readiness training, we teach essential professional and digital skills that help participants thrive in the workplace.
Through industry-recognized training, we prepare individuals for today’s workforce needs, with a strong and growing emphasis on construction and the skilled trades - critical pathways to family-sustaining careers.
Through our U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Pathways, we create hands-on, earn-and-learn opportunities that build direct bridges to employment.
Through financial education and counseling, we help members improve credit, reduce debt, increase savings, and achieve long-term stability.
Through strategic partnerships with employers across the Gulf Coast, we align training with real industry needs and connect graduates to high-quality jobs that offer growth, stability, and long-term opportunity.
And through wraparound support, we provide the encouragement, guidance, and practical assistance people need to move forward with confidence.
At SERJobs, we’re about more than workforce training. We’re about transformation; we equip our members with the tools, opportunities, and hope to rewrite their stories. Because when people find purpose and stability, communities thrive.
SERJobs: transforming lives through education, training, employment, financial empowerment, and hope.
However, hope alone isn’t enough; it takes action to create real change. At SERJobs, our services are provided at no cost to those already facing financial and personal hardship. Every gift from our supporters fuels the training, coaching, and resources that help individuals rebuild their lives and achieve lasting stability.
Your support empowers people to gain skills, find meaningful employment, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Together, we can expand SERJobs’ reach across Galveston and the Gulf Coast, bringing opportunity, confidence, and renewed hope to hundreds more.
When you give to SERJobs, you’re investing in people, potential, and progress. Join us in transforming lives through real training, real opportunities, and hope that endures.
SERVING THE TEXAS GULF COAST FOR OVER 60 YEARS
The Power + Purpose of Work Transforms Lives
Since its establishment in 1965, SERJobs has transformed and expanded, helping individuals from low-income communities transform their lives through education, training, employment, and financial empowerment services. SERJobs has locations in Houston, Galveston and Fort Bend counties.
Who We Serve
SERJobs serves primarily diverse low-income adults, U.S. veterans, formerly incarcerated adults, and young adults from ages 16 to 24 with innovative programs leveraging education, employment and empowerment.
The Need for Middle-Skill Jobs
Middle-skills jobs (i.e., jobs requiring a high school diploma and some postsecondary education or training but not a bachelor’s degree) pay family-sustaining wages and offer career pathways with opportunities for advancement. Nearly 1 million Houstonians lack the qualifications to fill these positions!
SERJobs bridges the gap between existing worker skillsets and skills that are needed to enter careers that pay living wages. Our services are offered at no cost to members. We partner with employers to curate training programs to fit the community’s needs and ensure SERJobs members are competitive candidates in today’s job market.

SERJobs’ Success Story - Jaelon
Jaelon enrolled in the Growth Opportunities program in August of 2024 and has shown remarkable dedication and leadership throughout his journey. He successfully completed a 12-week welding training program with only one absence, despite not having a car at the start of training. He found a way to show up on time, every day, without excuses. When he did obtain transportation, he immediately began helping others, serving as a reliable source of support by driving fellow participants to and from training.
Jaelon has gone out of his way to uplift those around him. He’s referred at least five individuals to the program, taking the initiative to bring them to the office himself. That kind of selfless leadership, wanting others to grow alongside him, speaks volumes about his character. Throughout training, Jaelon also became a strong advocate for both himself and his peers, voicing concerns when he felt things weren’t going as they should and actively contributing to a better experience for everyone involved.
He recently completed his Paid Work Experience at TXRX Labs, where he brought the same energy, commitment, and consistency that’s defined his journey since day one. Jaelon’s story is a powerful reminder of what persistence, community, and personal growth can look like in action. His example continues to inspire both staff and members alike.
