SERJobs’ Success Story - Meet Joseph
Joseph H. is a father, a veteran, and a man determined not to let his past define his future.
At 37, after serving honorably in the United States Air Force, Joseph faced one of the most difficult periods of his life. Following his release from incarceration in Harris County, he found himself at a crossroads. Despite the challenges, he carried a deep determination to rebuild. What kept him focused was his greatest motivation: his four young daughters.
Joseph was driven to create stability, provide for his family, and become the role model his daughters deserved. With that purpose guiding him, he enrolled in SERJobs’ Veterans Program with a clear goal to earn his Commercial Driver’s License and begin a new career.
From the beginning, Joseph approached his training with discipline and focus. His military background had instilled a strong work ethic, but it was his commitment to his family that fueled his persistence. At S & R Trucking, he quickly stood out for his dedication and leadership. After successfully completing his CDL training, he was offered a position as an instructor.
This opportunity marked a turning point.
Joseph embraced the role, using both his technical skills and his ability to connect with others to support trainees who were working toward their own fresh starts. He became a mentor, guiding individuals who faced challenges similar to his own and helping them believe in what was possible.
His impact was immediate and meaningful. Within a year, Joseph advanced to the role of Lead Instructor and Fleet Manager. In this position, he has played a key role in strengthening the program and improving outcomes, contributing to a 40 percent increase in graduation rates.
Today, Joseph earns $25 per hour and continues to grow in a career that offers stability and opportunity. More importantly, he has built a foundation for his family and a future he once worked hard to envision.
Joseph is now present for his daughters, leading by example and showing them what resilience and determination look like in action. His journey reflects not only professional success, but personal transformation.
Joseph’s story is a powerful reminder that with determination, support, and opportunity, individuals can overcome even the most difficult circumstances and build a future defined by purpose, stability, and hope.
